Happy First Tuesday in Spring, My Friend!
Remember in the movie A Christmas Story when the dad gets his “major award,” and it’s marked with the sign “FRAGILE.” No, it’s not Italian, but it’s perhaps a sign I need to wear on my forehead this week. I’ve already had two kids get married, and those weddings came with wobbly feelings for sure, but there’s something about the “last” or the “youngest” to get married. There’s a bit of an extra wobbliness involved.
Did you know that there is a special “dance” for parents at some Jewish weddings for just such an event? The Mizinke Dance! The parents of this last-to-get-married child sit in the middle of the dance floor, typically wearing crowns of flowers, while the wedding guests dance around them and sweep the floor with brooms! It is meant to be a joyous occasion, a symbol of “sweeping” that last child out of the household! Actually, I guess I “swept” Teddy out the door back in 2012 when he went off to college. My floors have been pretty clean for 14 years now! This just feels a little more permanent. As it should be.
All in all, I’m over-the-moon happy for our family. We are officially welcoming one more person, and she fits in perfectly already. Time to turn this frown upside down. More accurately, it’s time for a hair appointment and a pedicure. This will be one of my shortest notes to date!
April is busier yet. Between visits with family (yay!) and jury duty (boo), I won’t get to write to you again until April 27.
May your floors be clean and your hearts be full!
