A Little About Me & My Writing Journey
Before I ever heard the word “Encourager,” I knew I wanted to be one. But, as it happens, Encourager was not listed as a possible career choice or college major when it came time for me to graduate from high school and decide what I would be when I grew up. I did happen to play the piano and went on to become a music therapist. Though I enjoyed that work, and also as a piano teacher, there was something always sitting in the back of my mind—a big ol’ pile of words.
I was a word lover from the get-go. It’s quite literally in my blood as I am a descendant of Noah Webster, of “Webster’s Dictionary” fame. (I loved reading the dictionary as a kid. At that time, I didn't realize it was a "family album" of sorts!)
After raising our three kids and teaching many piano lessons, it felt like it was finally time to "let the words out." I wasn't sure what to do with all those words, though. I thought maybe I should write a bestselling novel. (I still hope to do that someday.) But what I believe God has in store for me right now is to encourage others with that pile of words. And I love doing just that! How I love to reach back into my yesteryears, pull out a funny story and find something to encourage others. It's just about my favorite thing.
Finally, a use for all of those words—and a place to call myself “Encourager.”
