Read Any Good Books Lately?

Happy Tuesday, My Friend!

OK, for those of you who have heard my “big news” already, my sincerest apologies. This might be your third hearing of it—I texted family and some friends and then made an announcement on my social media accounts, but here I am, saying it again. I swear, after this, I’ll move on. But to the three of you who might not have heard—

I published a book!

It’s called Come On, Morning! Encouragement for Another Day. It’s available on Amazon and also on Barnes & Noble.

As I write this letter, a copy of the book sits next to me. Well, I take that back. I just had to move it because I kept staring at it. One minute, I’m elated, and the next, I’m saying to myself, “I should have done this!” or “What if I had done that?” Oh, wait a sec—I’m back to elated again!

At the risk of sounding like I’m making an acceptance speech at the Oscars, I just want to say a resounding thank you to you all who have read my letters over the years. Monday afternoons have become my favorite part of the week because that’s when I sit down to write to you. I always hope to have at least a nugget of an idea on which to expound. Most of the time, I do, but not always. I always sit for a moment and think about how you might need encouragement this week. I get my “Peaceful Retreat” station going on Spotify and bring up my empty Word document. I always say a prayer and ask God to give me the words to encourage you. Sometimes, they come pouring out through my fingers. Sometimes, I have to pull them out like they’re covered in sticky syrup. I always hope the end result will encourage at least one person who reads the letter.

That’s it! That’s all I have to say about that! I promise I’ll get back to my old tricks next week and have more of a story to tell you! If there’s anything to be encouraged about through all of this, it’s that you can still do something new and scary and thrilling, even if you’re 64 years old! Heck—Grandma Moses didn’t start painting till she was 78! Want to try something new, even if you’re not a proverbial spring chicken? Give it a try! What have you got to lose?
