Happy Tuesday, My Friend!
Do you ever think about heaven? For some reason, I think about it a lot. I’m not sure why—it’s not like I’m that old. (Tell that to my mirror, would you, please?) And it’s not like my life here on earth is so awful that I long for the next place where things are supposedly going to be . . . heavenly! I just like to imagine what it’ll be like someday.
To discover more about what it might be like there, I went to the ultimate authority—TikTok. Wait, I’m kidding! Of course, I mean the Bible! But, in all honesty, I did look at TikTok just a minute ago. Actually, I googled “video of people saying what they think heaven will be like.” I thought for sure someone would have a roving reporter on the streets of New York City asking random passersby about heaven. But instead, I found a TikTok video of a young man explaining what he’d learned from the Bible about what our lives will be like there. I’ve read it myself in the book of Revelation, but I loved how he said this: “We’re going to be ‘kicking it’ with Jesus.” I’m assuming he doesn’t use the King James Version.
Something I always thought I’d experience there was hearing the angels sing. I’ve always thought that if any beings are going to have wonderful voices, it’s going to be angels, am I right? Could there be an angel with a tin ear? Would an angel ever hear, “That was a little pitchy,” if they were to participate in The Voice? I think not! And don’t we sing, “Hark! The Herald Angels SING”? Did Charles Wesley feel the same way I do when he wrote that song?
Somewhere along the line, someone told me that it doesn’t say anywhere in the Bible that angels actually sing, and my proverbial bubble was burst into a million little angelic pieces. Could this be true? Am I just going to hear a bunch of angels talking someday? What’s the fun in that?! Once again, upon googling the question about ‘do angels sing?’ I get both yeses and nos. It’s not really anything to lose sleep over, I suppose, but it still makes me ponder.
You see, I love a big old choir! Give me a whole bunch of really good singers singing the Hallelujah Chorus, and I’ll get goosebumps the size of Texas! Or the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir singing We Are United and I’ll be tapping my toes in no time! I figured that a whole lotta angels, who probably all have perfect pitch, singing together would be like nothing I’ve heard before! Like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on steroids!
From the description in Revelation, heaven is going to be beyond our wildest imaginations. As gorgeous as we can conjure up in our amazing human brains, the real thing will surpass even that. Not to mention the fact that we won’t ever get sick or hurt. Uh-uh, those new bodies we get are going to be flawless! Makes me wonder if I’ll never have a bad hair day. Maybe I’ll get my bangs right every. single. day. Forever!
I’ve grown to accept the possibility that I might not get to hear the angels sing. Time will tell. But here’s what I’ve also learned: we will! After all, the angels see God all the time! They’re His messengers, so they talk to Him and are in His presence all the time! But that will be a new experience for us! I mean, I know God is with us here on earth, but we’ll live with Him in heaven! Just like the good old days in the Garden of Eden, before things got messed up. If that’s not something to sing about, nothing is! Maybe that’s what the TikTok guy meant by just ‘kicking it’ with Jesus!
And just in case anyone might be reading this and thinking, Well, doesn’t she think highly of herself? Talking like she already knows she’ll get into heaven? Two things: I do not think highly of myself at all. Yikes, if I needed to be ‘good enough’ to get there, I’d miss the mark for sure. Only because of Jesus and His sacrifice on my behalf do I know that I know that I know that I’ll get to ‘kick it’ with Him in heaven someday. So in that case, I want to start taking some singing lessons so I can blend in well with whatever heavenly choir I might find!
What are your thoughts about heaven? I’d love to hear them!
