Forget-Me-Not!

Hey, Friend! Shhhh! Don’t let on that you know I’m here!

Psssst . . . . I know I said I wouldn’t write to you for a while, so please—read this in a whispered voice. I don’t want to upset your summer by butting in, but I’ve just been thinking about you and wanted to say hi. OK, and—I didn’t want you to forget about me. Out of sight, out of mind, and all that jazz. I just wanted to drop you a quick note to check in and say I hope you’re having a good summer.

Mine? Oh, mine is going splendidly. I’ve been in Wisconsin for a couple of weeks now. As I write this, Lake Superior is over my left shoulder. She’s more behaved today, gently waving rather than yesterday’s outright fury! You never know what mood she’ll be in, but even when she’s riled up, she’s beautiful. Intimidating, but lovely. (Maybe the “Angelina Jolie” of the Great Lakes?)

Being in my hometown is delightful. I don’t know many people here anymore, but I noticed something the other day. People actually signal their turns when driving. What wonderous love is this? Blinkers are used! Hallelujah! Who knew such a little thing could be so appreciated? Not I, said the little bear.

This is intended to be a brief note, so I won’t elaborate. I just wanted to say hello and make sure you didn’t forget about me. I won’t forget about you!

“When the first star with brilliance bright,
Gleams lonely o’er the arch of night;
When the bright moon dispels the gloom,
And various are the stars that bloom,
And brighten as the sun at noon,
                                    Forget me not.”
